Remark! Training provides outstanding BSL Training from Level 1 to full interpreter status, including refresher and CPD workshops, mentoring and Deaf awareness training for a wide range of clients.
Overall Purpose of the Job
Due to continued growth and increased demand for our training services, we have created a new Senior BSL Teacher (Level 6) and A1 Assessor position within our Training Division.
The principal purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality BSL teaching and assessment while providing outstanding guidance, coaching and support to students within a positive, inclusive and inspiring learning environment. This role will predominantly involve evening teaching.
The successful candidate will also be required to deliver Deaf Awareness Training, BSL Taster Sessions and bespoke training programmes for organisations and clients.
About the Role
The successful candidate will play a vital role within the Training Division as one of our senior teaching and assessment team.
Working closely with the Head of Services, they will help maintain and promote the highest standards of teaching, assessment, student support and operational delivery. As a Level 6 Teacher and Assessor, they will act as a role model within the teaching team, contributing to the continued development, quality and success of Remark! Training.
We are looking for a proactive and highly organised individual who is passionate about student development and committed to delivering an exceptional learning experience through outstanding teaching, coaching and assessment practices.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Services, your key responsibilities will include:
1. Deliver one or more of the following courses at Remark!, remotely via MS Teams, or at external venues:
· Signature BSL Level 6
· Signature BSL Level 3 (where required)
· Assessment of learners across all levels, including providing support and feedback
· Deaf Awareness Training
· Bespoke company training and BSL Taster Sessions
· One to One tutorials and mentoring
2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records and documentation.
3. Support independent learners and complete associated documentation as required.
4. Provide timely responses, guidance and constructive feedback to support student achievement.
5. Work closely with the Course Coordinator, administrators and wider Training Team, including maintaining resources on SharePoint.
6. Prepare students for assessments and support the effective delivery of assessment processes. 7. Provide additional tutorials, mentoring and support where required. 8. Complete and submit assessments accurately and within agreed deadlines.
9. Build positive and supportive relationships with students, promoting wellbeing and progression.
10. Contribute to the development and maintenance of teaching materials and resources.
11. Assist with training-related activities and support the smooth operation of the Training Division.
12. Support and collaborate with other teachers, sharing knowledge, resources and best practice to promote consistency and continuous improvement across the Training Division.
13. Identify opportunities for improvement and contribute ideas to enhance the quality, effectiveness and growth of Remark! Training.
14. Contribute to maintaining high standards of teaching, assessment and student experience across all training programmes.
15. Take ownership of teaching, assessment and administrative duties, ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.
Accountability The post-holder will be responsible for achieving individual performance objectives agreed with the Head of Services and contributing to the overall effectiveness and success of the Training Division. Due to the nature of the role, strict confidentiality must be maintained at all times. Adherence to confidentiality requirements will form part of the performance expectations and evaluation of the role.
Person Specification
• Qualified teacher (STTC/DTTLS/PGCE/PCET)
• BSL Level 6 qualification
• A1 Assessor
• Native BSL user
• Ability to teach BSL across all levels
• Strong knowledge of teaching methodologies and lesson planning.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills
• Proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Committed to providing timely, detailed and constructive feedback to students
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a genuine interest in student progression
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good knowledge of the English language
• High level of accountability and ownership of workload
• Ability to respond promptly and professionally to student and team communications
• Patient, calm and professional approach under pressure
• Flexible and adaptable approach to work
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint and MS Teams
• Ability to follow and implement organisational systems and processes
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Positive, professional, and solution-focused approach
