Job Description

We have fantastic opportunities to join us and support our deaf or hearing impaired service users.

We are looking for confident Care & Support Workers with the passion to both deliver outstanding care, alongside play a role in empowering d/Deaf or hearing impaired service users to access the same recovery opportunities as their hearing peers.

You will be working Full time (37.5 hours per week) across a mixed shift pattern of 3 to 4 12 hour shifts per week with a focus on supporting our d/Deaf or hearing impaired (profound, severe, partial or hard of hearing) service users with difficult mental health needs.

Cygnet Hospital Bury offers service users personalised assessment, care and treatment for mental health disorders.

Service users may have communication needs alongside a mental illness, autism, learning disability or personality disorder & are supported by a highly specialised multi-disciplinary team that includes both Deaf and hearing professionals who provide expertise and resources to support the individuals in our care.

We are also proudly supported by an industry leading, full in-house interpretation team onsite. “I would like to commend your Interpreting Department for the amazing work that they do. We have never seen such excellent work in the whole country.” – CQC lead inspector, Bury.

About you:

  • You may be d/Deaf yourself.
  • Have experience working or living with Deaf people before.
  • You can sign in BSL/Have an interest in learning BSL.
  • Ideally trained in Signature BSL to a minimum of Level 2.
  • As a person you are a strong worker and team player.
  • Are looking to help support d/Deaf people.
  • Have an interest in helping d/Deaf people with mental health problems.

Your day-to-day…

  • Offer enhanced care with a flexible learning approach for all the people in our care
  • Provide guidance & encouragement through physical & emotional support
  • Learn about individuals’ specific needs & provide help in the most appropriate way
  • Assist with medical & welfare needs
  • Report on medical & welfare needs as required
  • Safeguard
  • Maintain a safe, clean environment for all

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check & be required to attend a full time, induction for 3 weeks. (Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm)
