Founded in 1841, RAD is one of the oldest charities working with deaf people in the UK. Celebrating deaf culture and community is an essential part of what we do. With deaf people, and in collaboration with others, we innovate and deliver services that deaf people want and need.

We are looking to recruit a new Honorary Treasurer Trustee to join our board, for an initial term of three years (with a potential to extend for one further term) and are particularly looking for someone with the following skills and/or experience:

  • Charity leadership experience
  • Sound knowledge of income generation and business development at a senior management/ strategic level in the charity sector
  • Knowledge of charity and/or contract law
  • Understanding of charity financial sustainability and how to achieve this
  • Advise the trustees on measures needed to ensure RAD’s financial sustainability
  • Maintain an overview of RAD’s financial affairs
  • Attend and Chair Finance Committee meetings
  • Chair the annual audit clearance meeting and recommend the approval of the annual accounts to the board
  • Alongside personal and professional credibility, you will have the ability to contribute to constructive discussion and debate, have a positive attitude and a desire to make a real difference to the lives of deaf people, acting as an ambassador for the community. You will need to be eligible to be a company director and have the time to dedicate to this important role.

This role is unpaid although out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Trustees are expected to attend four board meetings per year, along with further training days, strategy meetings and sub-committee meetings as necessary. Additional time to support the activities of the organisation through expert guidance and/or participation in events and activities will be encouraged.
