Job Description

We are looking for a dynamic Deaf person who:

  • Has proven experience driving converted vehicles, minibuses or similar vehicles.
  • Is a dependable and safety-conscious Driver.
  • Possesses excellent driving skills and a clean driving record.
  • Good knowledge of local routes and traffic regulations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • A valid D1 driving license (without 101 restriction).
  • First Aid certification – not essential.
  • Experience of working in a Deaf adult care setting.
  • Basic car maintenance knowledge.

Job Description

Job Title:                     Driver

Accountable to:          Facilities Manager

Salary Grade:              Salary £23,751.00

Hours per week:         Monday – Friday 36.25 hours per week. This role may involve some evening or weekend work.

Holidays:                    5.6 weeks pro rata including statutory Bank/Public Holidays.

Purpose of the job:

  1. Provide qualified driver support to Residents with occasional support to the other service users.
  1. Maintain Deafway vehicles in terms of maintenance and cleanliness.
  1. Provide general maintenance support across the site.

General Duties: 

  1. Operate two converted cars and a 15-seater minibus to transport passengers to and from designated locations.
  1. Ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers during transit.
  1. Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any maintenance or safety issues.
  1. Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicles.
  1. Plan routes and adhere to schedules and timetables.
  1. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including those with mobility needs.
  1. Keep accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and journey logs.
  1. Comply with all traffic laws and company safety policies.
  1. General Maintenance support.
  1. Ensure confidentiality of information, that meet with GDPR regulations and Deafway policy.
  1. Assist in promoting and maintaining own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the Health & Safety Policy and Fire Procedures.
  1. Work effectively as part of a team and support all colleagues as required.
  1. Ensure professional conduct observing the Deafway Code of Conduct.

  1. Complete any other task(s) as required that relate to the purpose of the job.
  1. Complete all mandatory training as directed by the Facilities Manager.
  1. Uphold Deafway’s policies in respect of providing a culturally Deaf service including appropriate communication, to all Deafway’s service users.
  1. Promote a positive image of Deafway at all times.
