Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and professional Receptionist with a passion for people, diversity, and inclusion to join our team. Could that be you? 

This is a full-time position, working 35 hours per week, based at our Albany Street office.

This is a fixed-term contract, ending on 12th September 2025.

Who are we? 

Deaf Action is a deaf-led charity, supporting and celebrating deaf people. We were established in 1835 and work with deaf people across Scotland and the South of England. Our work is geared towards empowering all deaf people to achieve their potential and fully participate in society, with equality of rights, access, and opportunity. 

 About you  

As the first point of contact, you will have a positive and welcoming nature with a can-do attitude. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, with a background/understanding of administration and reception duties and responsibilities. You will demonstrate initiative and a willingness to learn. Knowledge of switchboards is advantageous, but training will be given. 

You should have a certificate in BSL (Level 3) or equivalent and worked with the deaf community.

The role 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Greet persons entering the building, determine the purpose of their visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations 
  • Answer, screen and/or forward telephone calls 
  • Provide information, take messages, and schedule appointments 
  • Manage and respond to email enquiries  
  • Manage and set up room bookings, including catering/AV requirements, and client invoicing 
  • Collect, sort, distribute, and prepare mail, messages, and courier deliveries  
  • Order, receive, and stock stationery supplies  
  • Reconcile petty cash 
  • Log sign-in sheets for staff, visitors and contractors, and book car park requests 
  • Assist staff and BSL tutors with printing and scanning 
  • Assist staff with logging I.T issues 
  • Conduct weekly fire alarm testing and set temperature for the building 
  • Provide assistance to Office Manager and Resources Team   
  • Maintain a tidy and well-presented work environment at all times 
  • Attendance at departmental meetings as required 
  • Maintain tea/coffee/milk supplies in staff kitchens
