Overall Purpose of the Job

Support Workers play a vital role in the delivery of our care service, to Deaf people across London and surrounding areas. Support Workers will undertake domiciliary tasks, empowering our clients to live independently, whilst leading fulfilling lives. This role includes the provision of advocacy, personal care, medication administration and other supportive tasks.

About Remark! Living

Remark! Living works with service users who are elderly, disabled, or have additional needs and simply need our support to remain independent at home, and out in the community. We provide experienced Deaf BSL Support Workers who engage with a wide array of clients, of all ages and disabilities. We also provide a range of domiciliary and personal care services tailored to meet our clients’ needs and are fully registered with the Care Quality Commission for both under and over 18. We provide services to older clients who need support with personal care, shopping, companionship/befriending, medication support, etc. Each package is different for each clients, and we will always ensure to match you with clients based upon suitability and location. In addition, our popular mentoring service works with young deaf people that need extra support in a difficult transition period. We help by providing positive deaf role models who guide these youngsters and support them in making positive life choices. Many deaf teenagers lack confidence and have a low self-esteem. We also work with them to build their confidence and develop healthier relationships with their families through our Family Support Service. We are recruiting support workers of all ages to ensure we are able to cover the large vast demographic of Deaf clients in Surrey.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support young people and adults with life choices

• Accompany to arranged trips and outings

• Travel training

• Offer information and support on drugs, alcohol, sex and other teenage issues

• Support with education or returning to education or work

• Support with transition from school to college or college to work

• Facilitate social opportunities and enable meeting of deaf peers such as elderly Lunch Club, Youth Weekly/weekend clubs and holiday schemes etc

• Help them understand more about the Deaf community and their Deaf identity

• Provide information on life skills and budgeting

• Support with personal care, medication and domiciliary care

• Provide 1:1 befriending service for elderly, vulnerable clients

Person specification:

Essential

• Be a native BSL user or possess a minimum BSL Level 3

• Enhanced Adult DBS

• Have wheelchair handling and caregiving experience

• Be available during weekends and weekdays including school holidays when required

• Possess basic administration skills

• Be professional and calm under pressure

Desirable

• Have NVQ2 Play Work/Youth Work and/or NVQ2 Health & Social Care

• A clean driving license
