About the Role as a Deaf & Deafblind Support Worker
We are looking for compassionate and reliable Deaf & Deafblind Support Workers to join our team on a self-employed basis.
This role offers regular, ongoing shifts with the opportunity for full-time hours, rather than ad-hoc or one-off work. Hours are flexible and agreed based on mutual availability.
You will provide one-to-one support to Deaf and Deafblind individuals, helping them with daily living, communication, appointments, and social activities, while promoting independence and choice.
Training, guidance, and ongoing support are provided, making this role suitable for both experienced workers and those developing their skills.
Pay & Hours for a Deaf & Deafblind Support Worker
- £12.21–£16 per hour, depending on experience and assignment
- Self-employed role with regular ongoing shifts
- Opportunity for full-time hours
- Flexible scheduling based on your availability
- Shifts may include weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends
Key Responsibilities of a Deaf & Deafblind Support Worker
- Provide one-to-one support to Deaf and Deafblind individuals
- Support communication using BSL and other methods (e.g. visual, tactile, written communication, fingerspelling)
- Assist with daily living tasks, appointments, and community access
- Support social interaction and meaningful activities
- Assist with light household tasks, meal preparation, and personal care where required
- Build positive, respectful relationships with individuals and their families
- Maintain clear and accurate records to support high-quality care
Essential Requirements for a Deaf & Deafblind Support Worker
- BSL Level 2 or above
- Experience supporting Deafblind people (paid or voluntary)
- A caring, reliable, and person-centred approach
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a regular shift pattern
- Good communication and professional boundaries
- Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience supporting Deafblind individuals or using tactile signing
- Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care or similar
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and the Deaf community
- First Aid or Safeguarding training
