We’re looking for an experienced British Sign Language Interpreter to help lead and support colleagues on shift.

Salary: From £65,000 (based on experience)
Location: Remote
Hours: Full-time (40 Hours Per Week)

Role Overview:
The Interpreting Team Lead is a dual-role position for experienced BSL/English interpreters who will both deliver interpreting services and provide real-time leadership and operational support during shifts. This includes actively interpreting while guiding colleagues, managing booking requests, overseeing shift logistics, and ensuring service quality. Ideal candidates will combine professional interpreting expertise with strong coordination and mentoring skills to support a seamless, high- quality service experience. Key Responsibilities:
- Team Support and Leadership:
- Act as the primary point of contact for interpreters during your
- Provide guidance, support, and real-time problem-solving for interpreting
- Monitor interpreter performance to ensure adherence to professional standards and company guidelines.
2. Operational Oversight:
- Manage scheduling and break rotations for interpreters to ensure coverage and efficiency.
- Address and support with resolving technical or operational issues impacting service
- Report shift activity, challenges, and feedback to
- Manage and coordinate interpreter booking requests, ensuring a timely and efficient allocation of resources as the service
3. Quality Assurance:
- Uphold SignWow’s standards by reviewing and providing constructive feedback to
interpreters as needed.
- Address any client concerns swiftly and professionally, escalating issues where appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality policies at all
4. Training and Mentoring:
- Support new interpreters with onboarding and integration into the
- Lead by example with professionalism, serving as a role model while mentoring and guiding
- Coach interpreters to improve skills and service
- Identify areas for development to contribute to the ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
5. Collaboration:
- Work closely with management to implement initiatives and
- Collaborate with the technical team to ensure a seamless service
- Contribute to team meetings and professional development
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualifications: Qualified BSL/English Interpreter Qualification, with an NRCPD (or equivalent) registration
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience as a BSL interpreter, with a proven ability to manage high-pressure situations.
- VRS/VRI Experience: Demonstrated experience working in Video Relay Service (VRS) and/or Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) settings, with an understanding of the unique demands, pace, and etiquette of remote interpreting
- Leadership Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative approach, and experience in a mentoring or leadership role.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with video conferencing platforms and remote interpreting
- Adaptability: Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Passion for Excellence: A commitment to providing exceptional interpreting services and supporting team success.
- Professional Supervisor Qualification: Not required, but highly valued as an added A higher salary will be offered if assuming a dual role.
