RAD has a fantastic opportunity for a sessional Outreach Advice Worker to join its team.

This is an Advice role where you will predominantly be delivering Information, Advice and Guidance to the deaf community from our London office and various locations in and around London. The ideal candidate would be required to be within commutable distance of London but also willing to travel further afield ad-hoc where required for cover purposes or to attend meetings/ training/ events.

This is a Sessional contract and hours will vary; this is suitable for those who like to work flexibly. Salary is £13.15 per hour. There may be an opportunity for this to become permanent subject to RADs business development.

This opportunity includes any training that may be required.

About the role:

As an Outreach Advice Worker, your main responsibility is to deliver one to one support, information and advice, group activities, remote sessions and community-based services to deaf people in their first and/or preferred language. Provide person centred support and guidance to enable deaf people to develop confidence, the skills to make informed choices and achieve positive outcomes.

Responsibilities as our Outreach Advice Worker will include:

  • Provide safe, effective and quality support to deaf people in and around London (remote and face-to-face) in line with agreed contractual outputs and outcomes. (All support should be given in a person’s first or preferred language/ their relevant communication preference, e.g. British Sign Language (BSL).
  • Support people to develop the skills that they need to build confidence, make informed and independent choices, and to participate in opportunities within the community.
  • Provide information, advice and guidance (within the parameters of this role) and empower the people who we support to overcome life barriers.
  • Where required, provide support for other projects and services that RAD provide.
  • Identify additional support needs (e.g. specialist advice or advocacy) and refer to relevant RAD services or discuss with line manager where further discussion or assessment is needed.
  • Promote opportunities to attend RAD activities and events that are relevant, of interest and are helpful.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of group activities, events and workshops.
  • Record information, outcomes and achievements onto the appropriate database (meeting required deadlines).
  • Gather, record and submit impactful case studies and the required consents, demonstrating positive outcomes.

Essential requirements we’re looking for in our Outreach Advice Worker:

  • Must be able to confidently travel anywhere in and around London where required.
  • Native sign language user or ability to sign to a minimum standard of BSL Level 3.
  • A willingness to undertake additional training/qualifications that are relevant to the post, including for safeguarding and data protection.
  • Experience of working with deaf people or within the deaf community and an understanding of deaf awareness and deaf culture – preferably, of delivering advice services.
  • Experience and understanding of the barriers faced by deaf people.
  • Experience of working independently and with confidence.
  • Confidently able to advocate the needs and wishes of the people who we support.
  • Proactive and creative approach to the development and delivery of person-centred support.
  • Flexible in approach to working including some evenings or weekend when required.
  • Must undergo an enhanced DBS check.
  • A minimum level 2 advice qualification is essential or equivalent experience.
